A new ceiling for Colhuw Hall!
Here at Cf61 we have been using the lockdown wisely again. When we are not in lockdown, the main hall – called Colhuw hall – is used by the community every day, for activities such as exercise classes, sessions for parents and toddlers and as a place for vulnerable groups to meet. While this is exactly what we want, it does mean that there is never time to work on improving the look of the hall.
One large piece of work that we have been wanting to do since taking on the building is to replace the suspended ceiling in Colhuw. The old ceiling has suffered some abuse over the years, and is one of the last cosmetic features not to have been upgraded since GVS opened CF61 as a community facility. However, replacing it requires a number of consecutive day’s work, when the hall would be unusable to the public.
According to lockdown legislation, only essential public services may run from community halls, which currently includes our weekly Foodshare, and also now Covid-19 Vaccination Clinics. But this leaves 3 working days each week when blocks of building work can be done, in line with Covid safe practice.
GVS Events and Venue Hire Officer Llinos Thomas says “A tidy and modern new ceiling is the last piece of the jigsaw towards making the hall the smart venue that it can be, and opens up new possibilities for its use. This work will complete the clean and modern look needed to make the hall a blank canvas for exciting, visually themed events, such as balls and possibly wedding receptions.”
The work will be done over 3 weeks and should be complete by the time the current lockdown is over. If you are interested in viewing the venue, please contact Llinos by emailing enquiries@cf61.wales
