Inspirational art and crafts at our resident group's annual exhibition
Over the weekend of the 10th and 11th of June, Llantwit Major Arts and Crafts Group, who meet at CF61 on a fortnightly basis, hosted their annual exhibition in the main hall. The exhibition featured the work of a number of members of the group in a variety of media, from painting to patchwork. Much of the work was also for sale, from handmade cards to crocheted animals.
The exhibition also featured the inspiring final pieces of the group’s two collaborative projects for the year. One was a 3D book, based on the historic buildings of Llantwit. Participating individuals were allocated a building at random and then responded to that with a piece of work in their own media. The result is a collection of beautiful and diverse art, which makes a truly unique interpretation of the rich history of the town.
The other project resulted in the creation of 2 quilts, assembled from squares sewn by participating individuals. A co-ordinated pallet of fabrics was used by all and the brief was to create crazy patterns. The final pieces were quilts for a child’s bed and for a cot, both 100% cotton, durable and wonderfully colourful. These will be donated to a local hospital, where they will be given to individual children to keep.
The group decided to hold their exhibition during These Three Streams this year, contributing to a growing arts festival that is putting Llantwit firmly onto the arts map. CF61 was a destination within the festival, with the Arts and Crafts Group also offering “vintage tea room” style refreshments, and a small exhibition from Llantwit Major Photography Group also on display in the Hoddnant room.
Congratulations Llantwit Major Arts and Crafts Group on another vibrant exhibition!
